Demonstratives (kore / sore / are)

These words point to things (fancy term = demonstratives):

• kore – this (near the speaker)
• sore – that (near the listener)
• are – that (far from both)

They replace the noun.

Basic syntax:

kore / sore / are + wa + noun + desu

Example sentences

1. Kore wa hon desu - This is a book.

2. Sore wa kuruma desu - That is a car.

3. Are wa mado desu - That over there is a window.

4. Kore wa watashi no mizu desu - This is my water.

5. Sore wa Yuki no ringo desu - That is Yuki's apple.

6. Are wa Taro no kaban desu - That over there is Taro's bag.

7. Kore wa watashi no denwa desu - This is my phone.

8. Sore wa anata no kasa desu - That is your umbrella.
